Back pain forms a major burden to the individual and society. Although from a medical point of view back pain is often not a serious condition, it remains one of the main causes of sick leave and high health care costs. Treating and prevention of back pain is a hot topic, but a solution will most likely not be found by solely biomedical research. Education and information nowadays form an important element of the fight against back pain, but due to the widely availability of information it is increasingly difficult for lay persons to assess the validity and reliability of the available information. This is where BackCare aims to stimulate research and form a bridge between the evidence and the lay public.
