ACCESSIBLE HOUSING DESIGN FOR PEOPLE WITH SIGHT LOSS

The Welsh Assembly Government has adopted Lifetime Homes principles for all social housing in Wales. They have subsequently funded a project undertaken by RNIB Cymru, supported by technical consultancy from JMU Access Partnership, to provide valuable complementary guidance to benefit people with sight loss. The project has several tangible outcomes: 1. Housing Sight - a design guide for new build houses 2. Adapting Homes - a design guide for adapting existing homes 3. In Sight of Home - good practice guidelines for local authorities 4. The design of a training package for relevant professionals such as Occupational Therapists, Grants Officers and Architects. This paper will outline each outcome in turn.
