Watershed Management Practices in Developing Countries - Problems And Remedies

The concept and Nature of watershed programme in developing countries focused on Land management, erosion control, sediment control, Flood Control and Biodiversity Conservation. In recent decades, great attention has been given to watershed inhabitants and their environment. Successful implementation of watershed management practices in developing countries is difficult. Because, there is seldom one agency with funding authority to perform all the work. In addition to, implementation often relise partially (or) voluntary. In India, complete successful rate of watershed programme is only 25%. In this paper, an attempt has been made to highlight the innumerous problems encountered in implementation, operation, monitoring, and evaluation of watershed practices and remedial measures for them.
