The peak particle velocity is the usual index applied to quantify the vibration induced by blasting, and its manin application is in the verification of the damage level to constructions. In ths paper we present two additional uses of the peak particle velocity index: the characterization of the disturbed rock zone in the neighborhood of an underground excavation and as a parameter for the evaluation of blasting plans efficacy. The methodology proposed analyses the three-dimensional peak particle velocity vectorial field, applying the attenuation law that expresses the dependence of the peak particle velocity to charge and distance.
