摘要

The paper presents the development of a menu-driven GIS-based system suitable for the management of information in open-pit mining and reclamation operations. The system is able to visualize data regarding terrain, mine and dumps layout, mining activity, production, safety, materials quality trends, restoration progress etc., by turning such data into information and placiong it onto charts or digital maps. The system has been developed for monitoring the operations of the Silver & Baryte Ores Mining Co. S.A. in the island of Milos, Greece. It is capable of retrieving spatially enabled data from its integrated database in order to analyse it geographically and produce thematic maps, diagrams and reports that assist mine management in decision making on various topics, with emphasis on the reclamation practices applied in the mined-out pits.
