The term gender is used to include everybody irrespective of sex. In this case of presentation it will include all age groups. Environment includes the surroundings of man like the atmosphere, water, land, plants, animals, and the built-up environment. The essence of gender in environmental education cannot be over emphasised as it involves man and the environment. Gender is also very important in environmental management. People use the environment for almost all their basic requirements like food, shelter, clothing, income, health matters, education and research. However in trying to use the environment the people have exploitated, changed and/or destroyed the environment. What is the way forward for the future at this rate of environment degradation? Therefore there is need to mobilise and inform the people on sustainable use of the environment. Environment is seen as a development issue and therefore need for gender mainstreaming for sustainable development.
