Construction of Tied Arch Bridge Across Ohio River and Blennerhassett Island

Construction of a new crossing of the Ohio River and Blennerhassett Island near Parkersburg, West Virginia is currently underway. The structure includes an 878.5-foot long steel tied arch bridge over the main navigational channel of the river and plate girder approach spans on Ohio and West Virginia side for a total length of 4,008 feet. The paper focuses on the construction aspects of the project and presents the solutions developed by the contractor to meet the challenges of the project.
