In the paper some problems the authors encountered during the development of a mathematical model of gas-dynamic processes proceeding in the marine diesel engine are presented. Certain methods for the assessment of the technical condition of the engines that are not equipped with indicator valves have been described. Next, parameters of the engine structure and input parameters used in the mathematical model are presented. Possibility of their modification in relation to each of cylinders can result in simulation of changes of the engine technical condition. Methods of modeling of selected working processes occurring in the considered marine diesel engine are described as well. They are illustrated by means of calculated mechanical and thermodynamic parameters as functions of time.
