Perceptions of Building Professionals on Sustainable Development: A Hong Kong Perspective

It is logical to believe that the building professionals (architect, structural engineers, building services engineers, etc) are the major decision-makers on a real estate development project. Accordingly, the attitudes and perception of building professionals will have a significant effect on the course of sustainable development. This article describes a study on the perceptions of different building professionals on the environment. A group of building professionals practicing in Hong Kong is required to complete a structured survey in 2004. The findings in respect of the awareness of the environmental and sustainable issues will be presented. Furthermore, a comparison between the perceptions of the building professionals at Hong Kong and Shenyang has been made.
