In this work, we study the electron flow through an eight-base pair DNA heterostructure GC8. Using Landauer-Buttiker formula, we analyze the effects of three factors, decoherence, thiol-group and two different electron injection methods (inter-strand transport and intra-strand transport). The results show that decoherence due to electron's interaction with environment is important in charge transport through DNA heterostructures and crucial in getting conductance values close to the experiment. We also find that the thiol-group is highly insulating by investigating the transmission and conductance of the strand with two injection approaches- via base and via sulfur atom in the linker group. Comparison of inter-strand and intra-strand transport near the highest occupied molecular orbital level is also discussed.
