PERCEPTUAL ASPECTS IN EUROPEAN PROJECT 'SIZE': LIFE QUALITY OF SENIOR CITIZENS IN RELATION TO MOBILITY CONDITIONS

The research project SIZE of the EU (European Union) examines the situation of older persons with respect to their mobility, The investigations are accomplished in eight European countries at the same time. Persons of the age of 65 years and older are particularly addressed in their role as road users. The results of the international comparison might be valuable for the future organization of the public areas and the traffic and above all will serve the road safety of the elderly, too. The knowledge base for that are the personal experiences of the interlocutors, seniors and experts. These personal experiences stand in the focus of the group discussions and individual interviews, according to research methodology. The qualitative study results, presented in the paper, among others show the role of engineering design in enhancing mobility and quality of life.
