Signal Processing Considerations in the use of the Fibre Optic Respiratory Plethysmograph (FORP) for Cardiac Monitoring

A simple, cost effective, non-invasive optical respiratory monitoring system is described. Evidence is presented that the system capability has been extended to simultaneous respiratory and cardiac monitoring. Work has been carried out to extract the cardiac signal when it is mixed with the much larger respiratory signal, and results in this area are reported.
