State of the art for large-area high-resolution gray-scale and full-color AC plasma flat panel displays

Abstract: Photonics Systems, Inc., (Photonics) has been developing a series of large area flat panel displays which are keeping pace with today's and tomorrow's demands for ever greater information content, screen size, and resolution. Photonics currently offers video monitor products with true pixel-by-pixel gray scale, real-time video update, and RGB analog interface ranging in sizes from nine inches to one meter in diagonal. These Photonics monochrome video monitors have full color video models in development which will be offered as products beginning in 1993 and 1994. This presentation reviews current state- of-the-art products and the status of our color companion models relative to varied applications and cost. We also review international status of gas plasma display technology. We show through trade-offs among the parameters of size, resolution, speed, portability/compactness, color, and image quality that our displays have the features to satisfy the requirements in today's and tomorrow's medical imaging, computer aided design, teleconferencing, multimedia, HDTV, and workstations/area applications, including the military.!8
