Experiments have been carried out at a small laboratory scale to investigate sediment transport rates in compound channels comprising of one rectangular mobile main channel composed of uniform sand with a d_(35) of around 0.80mm, and one or two symmetrically disposed smooth floodplains. Results are presented for straight compound channels and include sediment transport rates and some bed form analysis. The results show that the cross-sectional shape of the channels affects the transport rate and bed forms. For all experiments a typical longitudinal bed form of dune was obtained.
