In the framework of accelerator driven sub-criticalrnreactor systems (ADS), heavy liquid metals (HLM) likernlead or lead bismuth eutectic (LBE) are considered asrncoolant for the reactor core and the spallation target duernto their efficient heat removal properties and high neutronrnproduction rate. The excellent heat conductivity of LBE-flowsrncharacterized by its low molecular Prandtl numberrnleads to a violation of the analogy of turbulent heat andrnmomentum transfer so that modelling of the turbulent heatrntransfer in heavy liquid metals is still quiet inaccurate.rnAlthough various models for thermal hydraulics of LBErnflows are existing, reliable heat transfer correlations forrnADS-relevant conditions are still missing. In order tornvalidate sub-channel codes and computational fluidrndynamics (CFD) packages used to design fuel assembliesrncomparison with experimental data is inevitable.rnIn this paper the setup of a scaled LBE cooled rodrnbundle experiment planned at the Karlsruhe Liquid metalrnLaboratory (KALLA) for the experimental study of arnthermally developing turbulent LBE flow in anrnelectrically heated hexagonal rod bundle is discussed.rnMeasurements of the local temperature and velocityrndistribution are planned by means of traversablernthermocouples and pitot-tubes. A priori calculations withrnsub-channel analysis and commercial CFD codes arernused to optimize the setup of the geometry and sensorrnequipment of the experiment.
