Construction of the Transmutation ExperimentalrnFacility (TEF) is planned within the framework of J-PARCrn(Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex)rnproject. The facility has a critical assembly and a lead-bismuthrntarget connected to a 600 MeV proton beam line.rnConsidering the current J-PARC schedule, we arernplanning to install the critical assembly with a 30kWrnbeam dump at the first phase and the target facility willrnbe built at the latter phase. Based on this constructionrnplan, JAEA collected the preliminary Letters Of Intentrn(LOI) for TEF. More than 30 research programs by aboutrnone hundred researchers were proposed from all over thernworld. The proposals spread over wide research fieldsrnsuch as innovative reactor concepts including ADS andrnFBR, nuclear data, nuclear physics, and so on. A medicalrnapplication using 30kW dump was also proposed.rnAccording to these many valuable proposals, the re-arrangementrnof facility layout and the new experimentalrnequipment design are now underway. One of thernimportant R&Ds is to prepare for the application ofrnminor actinide fuels to critical assembly. The developmentrnof the technology to handle the high-background minorrnactinide fuel is being performed. A sensitivity analysisrnwas also performed to determine the efficient fuelrncomposition.
