The goal of this research was to investigate the applicability of an innovative technology consisting of colloidal gas dispersions at a Superfund site. The tests were conducted in tanks using actual fill materials from the site, contaminated with the actual waste. The results of this study on two different media (limestone and sand) found that, collocidal gas dispersions have potential as a fluid for enhanced remediation of contaminated soils. For limestone, solubilization seems to be the predominant mechanism of removal. However, in the case of sand, the removal of the contaminant is indicated to be a combination of displacement, dispersion/mobilization and solubilization. The low pressure buildup, when using colloidal gas dispersions, makes it a favorable fluid for field applications.
