In order to improve ocean forecasts several efforts havernbeen made to enhance the monitoring capability overrnthe sea by means of remote acquisition methodologyrnand fixed platforms.rnThe exiguous number of observatories with thernpossibility to acquire long term data of atmospheric andrnocean parameters and their low spatial coverage maderndifficult to obtain a real calibration and validation of thernremote sensed data all over the seas.rnThe W1-M3A offshore observing system moored in thernLigurian Sea has the capability to acquire long termrntime series of both atmospheric and oceanographicrnmeasurements and it represents a very useful platform tornvalidate and calibrate remote sensed data.rnThe proposed work deals with the most recent resultsrnachieved in the field of air-sea interactions phenomena,rnupper ocean layer variability, the contribution made tornthe evaluation of QuikSCAT products over the LigurianrnSea, and the comparison between in-situ measurementsrnwith ERA-Interim analysis.
