Integrated design of a virtual reality system with DMGIS for regional development study

摘要

This paper illustrates the theoretical opportunities available to extend regional development study analysis by integrating Virtual Reality System for Regional Development (VRSRD) with Dynamic and Multi-dimensional GIS (DMGIS) - a system that addresses the frequent requirement of regional researcher to access, process and subsequently visualize data collected and stored in different formats. The need exists for tools that enable the integration of these data, together with their associated data models, interpretation models, and virtual reality requirements. The objective is to build an advanced integrated interoperable system for transparent access and virtual reality of regional development. The integration and visualization of data repositories into an easily accessed interoperable environment in needed in many disciplines for both scientific and management purposes. The complementary nature of the two technologies results in an operational platform for region and natural resource specialists to consider engineering and harvesting design alternatives. The striking realism of the visualizations generated by Virtual region will enhance region managers ability to communicate their planned management activities on a region. Future development is panned to extend these capabilities to address specific geographic and agency requirements.
