A NEW INTERNAL WAVE ACTIVITY SEA AREA DISCOVERED IN THE YELLOW SEA NEAR QINGDAO

Five high internal wave (IW) activities sea areas in thernChina Seas, which include 1) from Bashi channel tornDongsha Island in the South Sea, 2) southeast of HainanrnIsland, 3) northeast of Taiwan, 4) Kyushu peninsula andrnZhoushan Island in the East Sea, 5)west off the Korearnpeninsula in the Yellow Sea, had been studied [1-2]. Here,rna new IW activity sea area has been discovered in thernYellow Sea near Qingdao. The spatial-temporalrndistribution of internal waves in the south off Qingdaornhas been studied using 67 images from ERS-1/2 SARrnand Envisat ASAR between 1991 and 2007. Thernamplitudes and characteristic widths of the IW werernderived from 80 imagettes with stronger signatures of therninternal solitary waves and the leading wave of therninternal solitons using ORSIW software [3]. The IWrncharacteristics and its generation mechanism in thernYellow Sea near Qingdao were studied preliminarily.
