A software to retrieve directional ocean wave spectrarnfrom SAR images has been developed for China seas andrnnorthwest Pacific. The software, written with Crnprogramming language, is based on the MPI methodrnproposed by Hasselmann. It is designed to support thernwave mode SAR data of ERS, Envisat, Sentinel and sornon. The directional ocean wave spectra produced by thisrnsoftware are validated with buoy data in global oceanrnarea, northwest Pacific and China seas and the retrievedrnsignificant wave height (SWH) errors are 5.2%, 4.9%rnand 9.3% respectively. About 15,000 directional oceanrnwave spectra are obtained with the software from thernwave mode data of Envisat/ASAR over the China seasrnand northwest Pacific during the period between Janrn2003 and Jan 2012. The preliminary analysis isrnpresented.
