This article is the first study of PBDEs in different microenvironments at school in South Korea. The objective of this study was to observe the distributions and fates of PBDEs in different type of rooms in school regions, including normal classrooms and special rooms (computer lab, computer institute) of elementary school and institute. Concentrations of 8 PBDE congeners (BDE28, 47, 100, 99, 154, 153, 183, and 209) in media of air (n=60, 51 indoor air and 9 outdoor air), floor dust (n=24) and product surface dust (n=69) were detected by Jeol JMS-700T high resolution mass spectrometry (GC/HRMS). Rooms with aged facilities had much higher levels, especially much higher faction of penta- BDE congeners. The wide range concentrations of all three media samples and totally different congener profiles in industry city from other two told us life style and indoor facility properties could be the main factor influencing PBDE distributions. Furthermore, Pearson coefficients among air, surface dust and floor dust were calculated separately and showed the threads that aerosol particles and dust (both surface dust and floor dust) might be the secondary sources of PBDEs in indoor environments after emitting out of indoor facilities.
