Versatile Embedded Controllers For Thin Client Applications

Communications platforms allowing cost effective processing and transportation of multiple protocols over the (T1/E1) digital public networks and digital subscriber lines (DSL) are compelling. T1/E1 networks and DSL allow effective transportation of wide bandwidth information carrying voice, data, graphics and video, utilizing a plethora of communications protocols. DSL provide high-speed access to the growing number of dial-up Personal Computer (PC) users and private corporate networks. This paper discusses highly cost effective implementations of versatile multiple protocol communications platforms based on a combination of highly flexible integrated communications controllers; and T1/E1 and xDSL transceivers. Platforms connecting to T1/E1 and DSL supporting Asynchronous Transfer Mode, Frame Relay, X.25 , 10/100 Mbps Ethernet, AppleTalk, HDLC and UART, amongst many other protocols, are discussed. Applications covering Voice over Frame Relay (VoFR) and Voice over IP Internet Protocol (VoIP) are also discussed.
