Abstract: Proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs)is the pathophysiogical basis of the restenoses whichoccur in 30-55% of patients undergonerevascularisation. Prophylactic measures includingpharmacotherapy, endovascular stenting and anti-genetherapy have so far failed to contain this problem.Photodynamic therapy (PDT) may selectively suppressVSMCs and decrease restenosis rates. We report 2studies; the first examines the effect of PDT on anin-vitro model of NIH and the second involves usingendoluminal ablation of an in-vivo model ofexperimental NIH of the rabbit's aorta. !8
