Vertical walls with concrete panels facing and polyester geostrips reinforcement is an emerging technology in USA and commonly used technology in many countries worldwide. To facilitate the acceptance of such a wall system in the USA, reinforcement wall has been fully instrumented in the State of Delaware. The instrumented wall is part of an abutment in a complex new interchange constructed in Christiana which is subjected to heavy traffic The instrumentation program included: a 4 bars soil extensometers; load cells at facing panels - geostrips connections; load cells on geostrips; pressure cells horizontally placed at the bottom of the reinforced soil structure; pressure cells vertically placed against the concrete panels; and temperature sensors. The paper describes this advanced instrumentation program, provides a synthesis of monitoring the first stage of construction and presents a first interpretation of data.
