The behavior of four full-scale free-standing Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil (GRS) bridge piers was valuated using full-scale load tests. The GRS piers were constructed using modular concrete black facing units and compacted aggregate with different geometry of geosynthetic reinforcement. Compression load tests were performed on each pier to evaluate the response of each pier under axial compression and the influence of spacing of the geosynthetic reinforcement. During loading, the applied load, axial and lateral deformations of the piers was measured. A description of the materials and procedures used for construction of the piers is presented and results of the observed deformations from the load tests are given.
