The source of unpleasant vibrations on board ships sometimes is easy to detect and difficult to solve. Normally thernrespective frequency clearly identifies the main engine or the propeller as exciting source. However, for vortex inducernvibrations the identification of the exciting source is more difficult.rnThe paper describes a case study, where experimental techniques and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) are combinedrnto identify the excitation source and guide the redesign to solve the vibration problem on a mega yacht. In the particularrncase, the number of excitation sources possibly causing the problem was significantly reduced by vibration and CFDrnanalyses allowing for one single measurement trip to pin point the area of hydrodynamic excitation.
