In the last decades dimensions and performances of leisure and luxury yachts have grown dramatically, leading to thernneed of and increasingly more rigorous and sophisticated approach to their design and construction. From thernhydrodynamic point of view, conventional experimental tools such as towing tank, have often been used for thisrnpurpose, when economically justified by the value of the craft. Besides or in alternative to the experimental tools,rnComputation Fluid Dynamics has recently become a mature numerical tool for many kinds of investigations in this field.rnIn general it is cheaper than experiments, has nowadays a similar accuracy and allows in many cases, thank to flowrnvisualization, knowledge of the flow overcoming that available from tests on physical models. While CFD is still underrndevelopment for some peculiar application, it is a mature tool for many others. In this paper we review some of thernapplications of CFD for the design and analysis of super yachts.
