This paper addresses the role that Innovation is performing at the forefront of Decommissioning over the next ten years. In both commercial reactor decommissioning, and complex legacy waste installations, unique challenges are demanding creative approaches. Emergent situations will result in FOAK (first of a kind) design initiatives that will require an agile engineering approach in a budget constrained environment. Modular and mobile will become the new lexicon in an ever expanding portfolio of design options that will need development to address the decommissioning industry. Safety in dose, efficiency in spend, and performance driven schedules are the metrics for this market and all must be met if not exceeded. How innovation can help in this respect, and the many areas where innovation can be applied will be discussed.
