In the frame of the ESA/ESTEC Safeguard DatarnRecorder study a highly reliable NAND-Flash basedrnmemory system for use in space was developed. Asrnfor all space borne semiconductor memories specificrnmeasures against radiation induced data errors andrnmalfunctions are mandatory in order to maintain thernrequired high data integrity. For this purpose anrnOrthogonal Reed-Solomon Error Correction inrncombination with an Orthogonal DatarnCommutation is applied. Additionally algorithmsrnto detect and to cope with radiation induced SinglernEvent Functional Interrupts are implemented. In arndemonstration model these functions were realized inrna Field Programmable Gate Array. An associated filernsystem enables an easy access to data structures ofrnvariable size. The demonstration model is ready forrnintegration into the ESA/ESTEC “Aviation Lab”.rnA representative version of the memory core is goingrnto be flown on PROBA-2. Finally NAND-Flashrnusage for telemetry buffer memories is discussed.
