THE GALILEO SOFTWARE STANDARDAS TAILORED FROM ECSS E40/Q80

The Galileo Software Standard (GSWS) provides requirements, recommendations,rnmethods, guidelines and practices to manage, develop, verify, validate and maintain thernsoftware to be developed in the frame of the GALILEO Project; it was created inrncompliance with the ECSS-E40 and ECSS-Q80 standards as well as tailored for thernspecific needs of concrete world-wide industrial applications. After a short presentationrnof the GSWS structure, the paper describes in details the steps followed to create thernstandard and the reasons from the beginning that led the Study Team to tailor the ECSSrnstandards E40 (Software Engineering) and Q80 (Software Product Assurance) in thernway they did.
