Implementation of the API RP 584 Integrity Operating Windows Methodology at the Gibson Island Ammonia Manufacturing Plant

A failure led to a significant fire outside of the primary reformer at Incitec Pivot Ltd. (IPL) Gibson Island ammonia plant (GIW) in December 2010. The impact of this incident on the plant reliability and safety management processes led to the decision to pilot the implementation of the API RP 584 Integrity Operating Windows standards (IOW) best practice [1]. This paper describes the implementation process for this standard for the reforming section of the plant.
