This paper deals with the shear capacity of reinforced recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) beam without web reinforcement. To this end, related test data on this topic in the published literature were collected. The behaviour and failure mode of RAC beams without web reinforcements are discussed. The influence of various factors, such as the recycled (coarse) aggregate replacement percentage, the shear span-to-depth ratio, as well as the longitudinal reinforcement ratio on the shear capacity is summarized. The suitability of the equations used to determine the shear capacity of reinforced conventional (or natural aggregate) concrete beams in several codes, such as ACI 318, EC2 and MC2010 as well as GB50010, is evaluated through a comparison of the predicted value and the test data for RAC beams. It was found that the equations in existing codes are generally not conservative for RAC beams, especially for beams with large recycled aggregate replacement. Some recommendations for the design of reinforced RAC beams without web reinforcement are proposed.
