Powder Coatings The Ultimate Solution for Wood Coatings?

Powder coating is a highly attractive technology that can be now used on MDF substrates. It is a technology that can provide solutions to the environmental, toxicological and economical issues for many wood coating applications. The study presented in this paper shows that attractive finishes can be achieved with both low bake powder and UV-powder. UV powder technology offers the further advantage of very high productivity, low energy consumption and high quality finishes. As the heating conditions required are milder, the choice of MDF is less critical. As a result of these mild curing conditions the use of UV powder technology for coating MDF, and also certain types of hardwood, has already been shown to be successful.
