Flue Gas Cleaning Applied in the Production of Nickel Oxide

Since 1979 Treibacher Industrie AG(TIAG) has been producing nickel oxide from the residue of Raney nickel utilized for catalytic hydrogenation. The present capacity is 2,500 tons per year, which is exclusively from the recycled nickel catalyst. The catalyst residue is thermally treated in a rotary kiln with an afterburner. The dust from the kiln is captured in a fabric collector and used in the production of ferronickel. This makes TIAG the world's largest producer of ferronickel from recycled material.
