Both China and Europe have a grand history of ancient cities and architectural culture. Beijing is a cultural city with a long history and a gem in the world's urban history. To date, it still has its own characteristics and vitality, it is a cultural treasure of both the Chinese nation and the whole world. The old town area of Beijing has an 8-kilometre long north-south axis. On the axis, main architectural complexes were built symmetrically. Tian'anmen, the Forbidden City and palace architectural complexes looking splendid in green and gold are magnificent and imposing and indicate the great dignity of ancient emperors. On both sides of the axis, there are located the four temples of Heaven, Earth, Sun and Moon which represent God's will and theocratic authority. The temples enhance the supreme authority of emperors. The turrets of the Forbidden City are highly praised for their exquisite and ingenious design, which is an almost unique craftsmanship. The Beihai Park, which was the imperial garden for several emperors, with the lake stretching green and vast, has charming sights and lovely scenes. Jingshan Park, which is located beside the Forbidden City, is a natural "protective screen" for the Forbidden City. The five glazed pavilions on top of the hill have different designs at random but make a distinction between the major and the minor ones and form a complete scenic picture. On top of the hill, people can have a full view of the entire city.
