Ultra-violet multilayer metal-dielectric filters (MDM) with high transmission and deep blocking are described. Shape factors for the bandpass are better than classical types. Filters for Raman Lidar and other Ultraviolet applications are required that exibit high transmission and deep blocking for all out of band wavelengths. High precision, high energy deposition techniques are needed for manufacture of these narrow bandwidth filters. Since ion sources have been investigated for producing stable films with low absorption for Ultraviolet transmitting dielectric layers these filters should be able to be constructed now. Previous narrow band MDM filters either had poor shape or poor blocking. A new type of MDM filter is presented that has high transmission and steep skirts near the passband. Complete composite filters will be described.
