Digital Speckle Radiography (DSR) is a measurement technique which uses flash X-rays combined with the computer analysis used in digital speckle photography. The technique has proven to be particularly powerful in the study of internal deformation fields, in both 2- and 3-dimensions, in high-speed events such as ballistic and explosive studies. In this paper, we present details of a new stereoscopic DSR apparatus. A new approach to the pre-processing of digitised radiographs prior to the displacement analysis results in a significant improvement in accuracy. An accurate determination of the scaling factor between the sample and the radiograph is demonstrated, and corrections for the Gaussian intensity profile of the X-ray beam included.
