When compounding high performance/value polymers Clwyd's approach to mixing has significant benifits, both in performance and cost. As shown in the three case studies we have demonstrated that by narrowing the rheological spread and enhancing dispersion, improvements in the following areas can be expected. 1. Process efficiency: Typically with modern tool changing systems the consistency of compound can govern the speed an existing job takes to set up. If the processing parameters were saved from the previous run further resetting should not be necessary. 2. Reduced scrap Setting up, short mouldings, purges etc can create large volumes of scrap products and compound, by using consistent compound this can be reduced. 3. Machine down time Set up times, blocked transfer pips, scorched rubber and dirty moulds are all phenomena associated to down time, by using consistent compound these can all be reduced. 4. Faster cure cycles When using consistent compound, cure systems and machine parameters can be finely tailored to produce the fastest cycle times. Our process leads to a consistent and safer heat history enabling faster systems to be used. 5. Compound flexibility Clwyd's unique approach has helped our customers develope innovative products, achievable due to the safe handling of compounds, excellent dispersion and consistency.
