Alternative PEM Membranes - Work at PSI

In the PEM fuel cell the membrane plays the dual role of electrolyte and gas separator. To accomplish this task in a high performance fuel cell the membrane needs to satisfy a remarkable variety of conditions. The main requirements are low gas permeability (no pores); low ionic resistivity (< 10 omegacm); thinnes (<100 mum); mechanical, thermla, and chemical stability, and last but not least low price (cost).
