Annex F (Fuel Cell systems for Transportation0 as part of the International Energy Agency-implementing Agreement 026 was started in spring 1997 and is intended to cover a working period of 3 years. Three countries (The Netherlands, USA, Germany) are official members of Annex X with 15 participating companies or research groups; they are contributing to 3 subtasks with differnet goals. Overall task of Annex X is to discuss and co-ordinate activities concerning different drive concepts - internal combustion engines, battery with electric motor, above all fuel cell systems with electric motor - in combination with differnet fuels for differnet transportation systems (including road, railroad and waterway0 as well as to analyse the corresponding life cycles and fuel supply systems in terms of regulations, economic viability, and future traffic requirements. Thus, the objectives of Annex X focus on economics and systems analysis (Subtask A), the balances of life cycles (Subtask B) and the analysis of fuel supply systems (Subtask C) based on the needs of both users and authorities as well as the results of IEA-Annex VIII and other information sources.
