ROYAL AIR FORCE FLYING TRAINING INTO THE 21ST CENTURY

This presentation summarizes the current flying training system used by the Royal Air Force. It then moves on to explain what challenges have been identified for the future training of aircrew, in particular the need to address the development of cognitive skills to manage the complex cockpit environments of future aircraft. A possible solution to the future training requirement is put forward and the specific issues of the use of simulation within the system is discussed along with the fundamental issue of the inculcation of military ethos. Finally, the UK Military Flying Training System procurement initiative is covered.
