Simple and Economized Technique for a Dense Cell Culture of Miroorganisms

Feed rate of multiple substrates containing glucose, polypeptone and yeast extract was readily optimized for a high density cell culture using a multiple perfusion culture system. Three independent perfusion cultures of LActococcus lactis were carried out simulatneously using shaken ceramic membrane flasks. Stepwise ocntrol of sustrate feed rate was found to be the most effecitve in enhancingthe cell growth and in reducting both the dilution rate and the total volume of the substrate solution. This optimized control strategy was applied to a scale-up culture system that empolyed a stried ceramic membrane reactor.
