A Trial Networking for VOD

The VOD service is a promising front runner in coining multimedia communication era. So many R&D center and companies are trying to realise the service, in which many possibilities are being validated. We intend to introduce LGIC VOD network. LGIC has the plan of constructing a VOD network to provide interactive MPEG-1 video services by the end of 1996 in Korean circumstance. This network results from considerations about korean community network environment and LGIC technological ablilities. LGIC VOD network consists of the video server system, the video switch, and ADSL as a commnunity network. We use SetTop box and TV as CPE devices.rnOne of LGIC's main goals in 1995 is to prove the possibility of VOD services through its network. In this paper, we describe our VOD network design philosophies, network functions, and considerations on future networking for VOD.
