Offshore wind farms are a growing businessrnworldwide. The energy output of a wind farm can bernpredicted by knowing the local wind climate. Usually, rnthe wind climatology is based on at least one year ofrnaccurate wind measurements. Before such data arernavailable at a site, satellite-based wind mapping can berna helpful tool in giving the first estimates of the windrnconditions. In the Wind Energy Mapping usingrnSynthetic Aperture Radar (WEMSAR) project windrnfields from SAR, in situ measurements and modelrnoutput from three test-sites have been analysed.rnSubsequently, a tool for retrieving wind maps fromrnSAR images and utilising them in the Wind Atlasrnanalysis and application Programme (WAsP) has beenrndeveloped.
