Operating a cleaning system requires a significant effort on the part of manufacturers. Any company engaged in cleaning and preparing goods for subsequent processing, such as painting, must be familiar with the myriad variables that can affect it. The most common issues faced are: 1. The surface to be prepared: it's size, shape, and make-up all requiring review. 2. The soil that must be removed; both type and quantity. 3. The application method employed; recirculating spray, immersion, etc. 4. The chemistry required. Cleaning comes first, it is only after a substrate is rid of unwanted impurities that subsequent processes can be accomplished. If a part is not cleaned first, you can expect a negative impact down-stream whether the part is to be painted, phosphatized, welded, plated, or simply packed to be shipped. Our attention will be given to this critical area and the most common cleaning process, phosphatizing. Management of cleaning and phosphatizing cleaning solutions should be aimed at maximizing their effects on increasing productivity and enhancing performance while at the same time minimizing adverse consequences on the environment, all at a reasonable cost.
