GRINDING SUPERALLOYS WITH BORAZQN™ CBN

BORAZON CBN offers to Industry the most efficient tool for material removal of superaltoys. In the grinding process, BORAZON CBN grinding wheels, when properly engineered and applied, grind superaltoys more economically with sustained metallurgical integrity than any other currently available industrial abrasive products. In this paper, the performance of BORAZON CBN is compared to that of aluminum oxide the most widely used industrial abrasive today. Total grinding costs and effects of grinding on metallurgical integrity, which affect fatigue life, are compared. In both cases BORAZON CBN Is found superior to aluminum oxide. Thus, we conclude that the application of BORAZON CBN in the fabrication of gas turbine parts, especially aircraft engines, where these superalloys are used extensively, will increase substantially in the near future.
