Successful Factors for Cruise Terminal Development: A Korean Aspect

The demand for international cruise terminals is increasing in Korea. As an attempt to meet the ever-increasing requirement, the Korean government has launched an investigation to find out 'what factors are to be considered to make a cruise terminals successful with referring to overseas cruise terminals, such as Hong Kong, Singapore, some ports in the Caribbean Sea. As part of this project, the current paper aims to draw such factors by interview and survey in a way of interdisciplinary studies, i.e. port and shipping and tourism studies. The cruise operators' attitudes towards needs and requirements on cruise terminals are also to be identified. The research results of the paper are helpful and informative not only to the Korean government that has a plan to efficiently develop cruise terminals in the country but also to those who are concerned with port development in general.
