Aimed at increasing transport capacity of freight pipeline,lowing energy consumption and reducing noise pollution, apneumatic capsule pipeline for freight conveying based onthe use of electromagnetic drive to propel capsules inpipeline was put forward in this paper. The transportationsystem is composed of a non-intrusive tubular linear motor,transportation pipeline, wheeled capsules and controlequipment. The driving force is provided by tubular linearmotor which consists of fixed tubular coil set (motorprimary) and moving capsules (motor secondary). Thewheeled capsules for carrying and transporting cargoes areinjected into pipeline driven by electromagnetic thrust forcefrom tubular coil set. In this paper the principle ofpneumatic capsule pipeline transportation driven byelectromagnetic thrust force and the mechanism oftransmission and transformation of kinetic energy betweencapsules and air in pneumatic pipeline were studied, therelationships among parameters of pipeline system andpneumatic transportation were discussed, the equationsabout electromagnetic driving force, pipeline transportation,pipeline pressure drop and total system efficiency werededuced and established in steady state condition. Thus thetheoretical foundation of the pneumatic capsuletransportation pipeline driven by electromagnetic forcewould be settled and a new technique of freight pipelinetransportation would be developed and put into practice ina large amount of cargoes transport.
