In the almost thirty years since Deng Xiaoping changed Chinese policy from self-reliance to one of openness to the world,China has moved from a position of almost complete non-involvement in the world economy to that of one of its most powerful and influential participants.Noble's founding father,Mr.Richard Elman,was smart enough and probably also lucky enough to start his company in 1987,just at the time when the Chinese economy was beginning to soar.Helped additionally by its location in Hong Kong,the Noble Group from the beginning attached the greatest priority to developing business ties with China.As a global supply chain manager of agricultural,industrial and energy products Noble supplies a wide variety of foodstuffs and raw materials to China and takes from China the products of its fields and factories,with much of this trade carried in ships under Noble management.Within the past year Noble has expanded its business activities in China by acquiring four oil seed crushing facilities and I am confident that in the years ahead Noble's inventory of assets within China will grow at an impressive rate.And now with the appearance of the newest member of our family,Noble Cotton,Noble and China will be threaded even closer together by what I am confident will be a mutually beneficial relationship in the cotton industry.
